Cast Iron Apple Pie

Cast Iron Apple Pie
  1. You need the perfect heat for baking a cast iron apple pie. Light your charcoal in the KUDU and let them burn to embers with a layer of white ash.
  2. Adjust the cast iron ring height to medium-low (approx. 350 degrees).
  3. Place 1/2 cup butter into the cast iron pan and melt. Sprinkle with brown sugar when melted to enhance the sweetness.
  4. Remove pan from the grill.
  5. Place 1 refrigerated pie crust on top of the brown sugar. Top the pie crust with half the sliced apples. Sprinkle apples with 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon; place a second pie crust over the apples; top the second crust with the remaining apples, and sprinkle with 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Top with the third crust; sprinkle the top crust with 1/4 cup sugar, and dot with 1 tablespoon of butter. Cut the top crust into 4 slits for steam.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven until top crust is lightly browned, about 45 minutes.
