Saffron Hodgson

Saffron grew up in Australia spending every opportunity outdoors, from camping, hiking, kayaking, sailing, rock-climbing and, of course, cooking. After a nomadic-type lifestyle following a transport and logistics career around Australia and then to Singapore, she found herself in Seattle, Washington in 2008 where life took a drastic change. So began her new life around cooking.

Since her arrival in the United States, Saffron has been an active competitor in all forms of outdoor cooking including barbecue, Dutch oven, steak, chili, and chuck wagon. She also dabbles with the occasional odd entry in random competitions like sausage, salmon, desserts and pies just to keep things interesting and honing new skills. Although competing and occasionally winning, her focus has always been on traveling, learning and teaching.

In 2017, after 6 years working for, she went out on her own. Saffron started, a webpage that purely focuses on outdoor cooking, whether in your backyard, at the local park, camping miles from civilization and everything in-between. The site includes a wide range of outdoor-related recipes from a variety of chefs and cooking enthusiasts who also have a passion for outdoor cooking, but it also aims to include information on outdoor skills like lighting fires, Dutch oven cooking and grilling.
